John Roach, Sound Artist and Zion National Park’s February Artist-in-Residence

Z-Arts is pleased to offer this free community presentation by John Roach, Sound Artist and Zion National Park’s February Artist-in-Residence.

John will present his work this Saturday, February 26, 2022 at 7:30 pm at the Canyon Community Center, located at 126 Lion Blvd., Springdale.

Join John as he talks about preservation and ecology from a different perspective–Soundscapes. John, a sound artist, has been documenting Zion’s soundscape by recording many natural and human-made elements that are the park today. He has trekked through Zion’s seemingly quieter areas recording rocks, water, plants, wildlife, and people to tell their stories.

John Roach is a professor at Parsons School of Design in New York City, who’s classes address the aesthetic, spatial, emotional, psychological and political impact of sound. His work has been exhibited internationally.

John is also hosting an open studio this Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Grotto in Zion National Park. Shuttles are now running on weekends, so plan accordingly!
