Join Z-Arts on Thursday, March 1st, for a delightful presentation by award winning poet author Jim Barton.  Jim will be reading selected poems, flash fiction and creative non-fiction.

Jim Barton’s poetry has appeared in many journals including Mississippi Review, Louisiana Literature, Poetry Motel, The Aurorean, Off the Coast and Mid- American Review. He is author of four collections of poetry: For the Animals Who Missed the Ark, Music, At the Bird Museum (winner of the Morris Chapbook Award), and Dirty Little Town. His upcoming collection from Finishing Line Press, A Question Before I Go, is due in 2017 or 2018. Jim serves as the President of the National Federation of State Poetry Societies, and has won the Award of Merit and two Sybil Nash Abrams Awards from the Poets’ Roundtable of Arkansas. He has spoken at conferences and seminars across the Mid-South, and has had his creative nonfiction published online by Prairie Home Companion. He has also performed his nonfiction stories on public radio’s Tales From the South. His short stories have been published in Between the Lines and The Storyteller. Jim lives in the bayou country and pinelands of south Arkansas with wife Cathy. They have seven children and seven grandchildren, a dog, a cat, several chickens and a white rabbit.

On Friday, March 2nd, Jim Barton will also be speaking at Poetry in the Park.  This workshop will be held at the Zion Park Lodge from 9am to 4pm.  Enjoy a guided nature walk or free time to explore Zion Park’s trails on your own.  Bring a picnic lunch or eat at Redrock Grill.  Workshop fee of $55 includes park pass; students who register before February 15th only pay $20.  Register online or call Michael Plyler at (800) 635-3959.  Poetry in the Park is made possible by the Utah State Poetry Society, Zion National Park Forever Project, Z-Arts, Utah Division of Arts & Museums, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
