The Humanities department of Z-Arts has embarked on a new venture this season that we hope all of our members will enjoy – historical walking tours of the three Zion Canyon towns of Virgin, Rockville, and Springdale. Settled first in 1857, Virgin’s historical walk will occur first, followed by Rockville, and then Springdale.  The purpose is to see the historical progression of the settlement of Zion Canyon.  The tour dates are as follows:

  • Virgin                               Saturday, September 6, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
  • Rockville/Grafton       Saturday, October 11, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
  • Springdale                     Saturday, November 8, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Springdale Walking Tour

Saturday, November 8, 2014, 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

This walking tour will be led by Michael Plyler of the Zion Canyon Field Institute.  This walk has been scheduled to coincide with the Butch Cassidy Walk/Run that takes place that same morning.  By taking place Saturday afternoon, this walking tour allows for participation in both events.

Michael Plyler has asked that we meet at the Springdale Post Office for the beginning of the tour.  However, there is no parking at the Springdale Post Office, so please park elsewhere and either walk or catch the town shuttle to the Post Office.  Please allow enough time for this so that the tour can start on time.

Unlike the two previous walking tours of Virgin and Rockville, the Springdale tour is shorter in time because there are less historical structures remaining to be seen.  But we still should learn some history about Springdale that many of us may not know.

Previous walkers please bring your lanyards from the previous walks.  There will Springdale pins and maps to put on your lanyards.  Lanyards will be available for those who have not attended any of the previous walks.

Families with children feel free to join in.  Bring your strollers.  Wear good walking shoes and hats.  We will see you then!

Partial funding for these walking tours has been provided by:  uhc_2012
