“Mother Nature Through My Eyes” by Shirley Smith

We hope you will join us for an artist reception for award winning photographer Shirley Smith on Thursday, June 13, 2019 from 5 to 6 pm.  Following the reception, Shirley will give a presentation on composition, perspective and light titled “Tips for Better Photos (No Matter what camera you have)”.

“Mother Nature is the true artist. All I can do is capture Her beauty with my camera in person and in my studio,” said Shirley Smith. She embraced the study and hobby of photography in 2012 with encouragement from her husband, Bruce, and she has not looked back to “life before camera”. She utilizes her digital camera to capture and the computer to enhance moments in time around our beautiful country. Her expertise in digital photography allows her to share these moments and feelings with you, the viewer.

Shirley is an award winning, nationally known photographer currently shooting with a Nikon D800e and a Nikon D500 (for hiking), plus various lenses. Not only is her work on display at the Arrowhead Gallery in St George, UT, she has exhibited at the Mesquite Fine Art Gallery, Rochester (NY) Contemporary Art Center, Dixie State University (UT), Red Cliff Gallery (UT), St George Art Museum (UT) and various venues in Michigan. In the summer of 2017, Shirley had a solo show at Dixie State in the Grand Foyer of the Eccles Center. She is the President of the Color Country Camera Club (St George, UT) and an active member of the Southern Utah Artists Guild and Virgin Valley Artists Association. Her current work is on display at the Arrowhead Gallery in downtown St George, UT. Her alcohol ink functional tiles are available at the Datura Gallery in the Kayenta Art Village in Ivins, UT.

Shirley’s photography will be on display from June 4th to July 15, 2019. The gallery show is in the Canyon Community Center located at 126 Lion Boulevard in Springdale. It is open to the public Monday through Thursday from 10am to 7pm, Friday 10am to 5pm, and Saturday from 12 noon to 5pm. The gallery is closed on Sundays and all State and Federal holidays.
